Serum
ELISA (SELISA)
The Serum ELISA (enzyme-linked
immunosorbent assay) detects circulating antibodies to Mycobacterium
avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in serum from a blood sample.
Allied Monitor's SELISA has a reported specificity of 95.4% and a
sensitivity of 58.8%. A confirmative AGID test is performed for all
positive SELISA results, unless no AGID test is requested.
Depressed serological titers
due to late pregnancy and anergy due to advanced paratuberculosis are not
uncommon resulting in the possibility of a false negative SELISA
result. Under these conditions the use of the AGID test will most
always detect the presence of antibodies to MAP resulting in a true
positive test. Why the antibody is detected in AGID and not SELISA
under these conditions is unknown to researchers at this time. If an
animal is in pregnancy and/or showing clinical signs of Johne's Disease,
an AGID test is highly recommended for that individual. Please be
sure to note the test animal's health condition when submitting sample.
In most instances, Allied's
SELISA result can be reported within 24 hours of sample receipt. For
more than 300 samples, please notify us prior to shipping.
