Test
results should be used for herd health management: not as
qualification for purchase, sale or vaccination. The ELISA and AGID
tests are presumptive and unofficial since these tests quantitative the
circulating antibodies to Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP):
not the disease per se. Late pregnancy and anergy due to advanced
paratuberculosis may cause depressed serological titers, for these
reasons. please note each animals health condition when submitting samples.
Fecal culturing remains the Gold Standard in Johne's testing. Since
organisms are shed intermittently, a negative fecal result does not rule
out the presence of the disease. Routine testing is recommended.
