Johne’s Testing Services
Confidential testing services for ruminant and non-ruminant species at affordable prices.
Please call for details as certain tests are species-specific.
SERUM ENZYME-LINKED IMMUNOSORBANT ASSAY (SELISA)
Detects circulating antibodies against Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in the serum portion of a blood sample. In most instances, results can be reported within 24 hours of sample receipt. For more than 200 samples, please send notification prior to shipping.
MILK ENZYME-LINKED IMMUNOSORBANT ASSAY (MELISA)
Detects circulating antibodies against Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis (MAP) in milk samples. Samples may be submitted as individual or bulk tank. All possible high reactors should be confirmed with a Serum ELISA and/or a Fecal Culture. In most instances results can be reported within 48 hours of sample receipt.
AGID
Agar Gel Immunodiffusion test is recommended as a supportive test for a positive SELISA result or can be used as a separate test. Results are reported after 48 hours of sample receipt. AGID specificity of >99%.
FECAL CULTURE
The gold standard in Johne’s testing! A positive fecal culture is 100% specific and confirms Mycobacterium avium ssp. paratuberculosis. Since the organisms are shed intermittently, a negative result does not rule out the presence of the disease. Routine testing is highly recommended. Positive results can be reported between 3-5 weeks of incubation. Negative results are reported after 8 weeks of incubation. For more than 200 samples, please send notification prior to shipping.
DIRECT PCR
Polymerase Chain Reaction detects for specific genetic sequences in fecal, milk and tissue samples. Direct results within 48 hours of sample receipt.
